EMB Military presents a connected battlefield concept built around a smart intelligent visor helmet, live combatant awareness, threat alerting, medic notification, and command-level visibility.

Links to Next Generation Technology Fund Priority Areas

This proposal describes the research that would bring the Department of War to a new platform.

Priority

EMB Military Pty Ltd has world-wide patents for this invention and the sister company (EMB Safety Helmets) has already developed some of this technology and has been tested by our Engineers.

PRIORITY: Integrated intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance – effective enterprise intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance integration, and interoperability with our allies.

Software to be developed to utilize Quantum technologies, with allies fighting next to ADF personnel being set up to share the helmet system’s data. This will provide a capability edge through superior battlespace awareness.

In a broad aspect relevant to this priority, the patented invention by EMB resides in the military helmet, comprising the following data and data-access capability:

  • a see-through retractable visor, including a heads-up display; able to be viewed by any party given secured, multi-level access through the software (including allies);
  • Quantum computing is well- suited for the software EMB Military will develop. Our software will streamline the delivery of multiple data to multiple locations, which will map optimal routes based on the current direction of travel and location of each soldier and each ADF vehicle in real-time.
  • a global positioning system (GPS) chip and wireless protocol transceiver adapted to send the location and biometric information of individual soldiers to a central command computer or transceivers of other helmets,
  • The helmet will include messages from autonomous vehicles fitted with ground-penetrating radar (GPR) via command computer once the GPR has detected and located landmines within a predetermined radius of a soldier. This can be displayed on the heads-up display, and an alarm signal can be automatically activated. The soldier can communicate with the central command to effect the disposal and/or destruction of the detected landmine

PRIORITY: Medical countermeasure products – establishing and coordinating a national infrastructure for the rapid development of medical countermeasure products to provide effective protection of Defence personnel from a range of chemical, biological, and radiological threats, pandemics, and emerging infectious diseases.

A radiation detector on drones and the helmet will gather information to a remote server (and issue warnings to relevant individual soldiers as well as central communications), warning of the location and level of radiation present.

The helmet comprises sensors to detect chemical warfare and, once detected, will activate the integrated helmet breathing apparatus.

PRIORITY: Enhanced human performance – including enhancing Combatants’ resilience and ability to interpret and use data on the battlefield

EMB Military Helmet/Smart Intelligence Visor has the following features to enhance relevant medical data dissemination:

  • Where personnel have different roles, there is the capability for them to select the content and category of information to be accessed and displayed through the visor:
  • This is exemplified where a medic can select only the biometric information of an injured Combatant so as not to be distracted by other troop or strategic operational information. The medic who is closest to the injured Combatant will be provided with the location and vital signs of that soldier, with warnings of any deterioration of the soldier’s condition being sent as an alarm to the medic’s helmet.
  • The location and physical condition of an injured or isolated soldier can be displayed on the visors of every Combatant. [Likewise, Combatants engaged in combat can select to view the troop or strategic operational information without the distraction of any biometric data.]
  • One or more biometric sensors include a galvanic skin response detector adapted to detect heart rate, etc.
  • One or more biometric sensors include an airflow meter adapted to detect respiratory rate
  • The medic can command access to a Doctor via his head-up display to assist in the treatment of a critically injured Combatant. Immediate evacuation of the injured Combatant can then be requested once the Combatant’s condition is considered to have stabilized.
  • The functions of the helmet include a voice recognition function to establish that a Combatant is not under any physical threat or duress.
  • The helmet provides access for, or integration of, a breathing apparatus, such as required in a chemical warfare application.

PRIORITY: Multidisciplinary material sciences – investigating technological advances to reduce the detection of Military platforms and improve ballistic and shock protection, and exploring materials and processes that support advanced manufacturing.

EMB Patented Military Helmet has the following features:

  • EMB Helmet is constructed of modern composite materials, including Graphene, Kevlar, and other resinous fibre impregnated plastics. It will have internal linings with not only armour proof, but shock-absorbing technology and materials, to provide cranial protection.
  • The intelligence smart-visor will be ballistic and armour-proof and constructed from transparent plastics, including Lexan, and other materials used in aerospace technology.
  • The visor will have integrated embedded circuitry and nanotechnology to provide a digital display functional, inclusive of night vision and infrared location technology.
  • EMB Military Helmet will meet the MIL-STD-461 tests for Electromagnetic interference

PRIORITY: Quantum technologies – increasing the security of military and government communications and computing through strengthened encryption and exploring new types of sensors based on quantum systems.

EMB Patented Military Helmet has the following:

  • Biometric retinal identification, voice recognition, and spoken password recognition can detect duress of a prisoner of war and any relevant parameters indicating the physical condition of the soldier.
  • Quantum computing is well-suited for the software EMB Military will develop. Our software can streamline the delivery of multiple data sets to multiple locations, which will map.
  • Optimal routes based on the current direction of travel and location of each soldier and each Military vehicle in real-time – all at once.

Our Quantum communication:

  • ostensibly hack-proof, including electromagnetic field interference protection, and
  • will deliver additional layers of security, even if the information is intercepted, it would be difficult or impossible to decipher.

PRIORITY: Trusted autonomous systems – researching developments in trusted autonomous systems that may have the potential to support ANY MILITARY capability in the future, such as the use of autonomous vehicles for resupply.

EMB Military Helmet has the following:

  • The EMB Military Helmet can provide GPS locations of Military personnel, placing a command to his/her helmet to have resupplies delivered by autonomous vehicles. The Military personnel’s coordinates will be noted for resupply via the use of autonomous vehicles and aircraft, for example, drones and marine/watercraft. The autonomous vehicles preferably have locating GPS systems with GPR

PRIORITY: Cyber – establishing a research and development capability to address the threats presented by information and communications technology dependencies and vulnerabilities within military systems.

EMB Military Helmet has the following:

  • Biometric retinal identification, voice recognition, and spoken password recognition can detect duress of a prisoner of war and any relative parameters indicating the physical condition of the Combatant.
  • Quantum computing is well-suited for the software EMB Military will develop. Our software can streamline the delivery of multiple data sets to multiple locations, which will map
  • Optimal routes based on the current direction of travel and location of each Combatant and each Military vehicle/tank/aircraft/ship in real-time – all at once.
  • Our Quantum communication:
  • ostensibly hack-proof, including electromagnetic field interference protection, and
  • will deliver additional layers of security, so even if the information is intercepted, it would be difficult or impossible to decipher.

These innovations would be a Priority given the number of lives that would be saved for the Defence Force/Department of War. Investment in further research is essential to progress to benefit realization.
